'Austrian jazz harpist Monika Stadler presents a selection of nine of her own compositions in a volume clearly put together with much love and thought.(...) The pieces themselves are well written and appeal directly to the emotions. The style verges between pop, jazz and easy-listening, though within this rather vague classification they are inspired and include various important contemporary techniques (nail glissandi, pedal slides/kicks, note bending and so on). From this point of view the book would make an ideal introduction to contemporary music for the intermediate/advanced student while still offering pieces that are highly melodic and very approachable. The volume would also be of interest to those looking to build up their repertoire of background music, as they provide an excellent ambience.
