Larry Porter (1951), amerikanischer Jazzmusiker und Komponist, schrieb die "Piano Rags" aus Liebe zum Ragtime und als Spielliteratur für seine Klavierschüler. Vier der Stücke sind von Eindrücken und Erinnerungen an seine Heimat inspiriert. Bei der Komposition der Stücke war es sein Ziel, sich etwas Neues und Originelles auszudenken und dabei Form- und Stilelemente des Ragtimes beizubehalten. Dabei hat Porter seinerKreativität freien Lauf gelassen und dieser großartigen, über hundert Jahre alten Kunstgattung seine Ehre erwiesen. Larry Porter (1951), American jazz musician and composer, wrote "Piano Rags" out of love for ragtime and as literature for his piano students. Four of the compositions are inspired by memories and impressions of his native country. In writing these pieces, it was the composer's aim to come up with something fresh and original while retaining formal and stylistic elements of ragtime. In doing so Porter gave free reign to his creativity and at the same time paid his respects to this extraordinary century-old art form.
