This book focuses on the research of deformation, particularly the transverse deformation of the shield tunnel. First, the theoretical analysis based on structural mechanics was introduced, and then a full-scale model test was carried out to monitor the deformation of structure under gradually increasing loading. Most of the structure types existed in Shanghai metros were researched in the tests, and the deformation mechanisms for different structures were separately summarized. Besides, tunnels with reinforced measures were also tested to verify the effects of reinforcement. Based on the research results, controlling standards for structural safety of tunnel were proposed, and several measures for the treatment of deformation were introduced with four application cases in Shanghai. From this book, the readers could learn the deformation mechanisms of shield tunnel structures and corresponding treatment measures, which could help the readers solve relevant issues and strengthen the risk awareness of structure safety at the same time.
