Full Description
The story "At a High Price" takes place in Ukraine in the 1830s. The main characters are young peasants Ostap and Solomiya, who are running away from their cruel master. They decide to cross the Danube to the Turkish side, to the Ottoman Empire, where a few years ago the Danube Sich stood as the center of the will of the Ukrainian Cossacks.
