Écrivain du « non-mot », Beckett est l'auteur d'une œuvre tout à fait paradoxale. Dirigée vers le rien, en quête du dernier silence, sa production est pourtant hétéroclite. Inspirée de la musique et de la peinture, elle se diversifie de la parole vers le son et l'image. D'abord poète, romancier et dramaturge, Beckett en arrive ainsi à écrire pour la radio, le cinéma et la télévision. Ce cheminement hybride n'est pas fortuit : l'intermédialité beckettienne épuise le mot, arpente ses limites, l'appauvrit et le transforme afin de découvrir dans sa forme résiduelle sa véritable valeur.

A writer of the "non-word", Beckett's work is utterly paradoxical. Directed towards nothingness, in search of the last silence, his output is nonetheless heterogeneous. Inspired by music and painting, he diversifies from the spoken word to sound and image. Beginning as a poet, novelist and playwright, Beckett went on to write for radio, film and television. This hybrid path is not accidental: Beckett's intermediality exhausts the word, surveys its limits, impoverishes and transforms it to discover its true value in its residual form.
