The dynamic Neo-Mannerist images of painter and illustrator Frank Morrison (born 1971, lives in Atlanta) celebrate the resilience and dignity of African Americans in everyday life. A child of institutionalized racism in the US, he can testify that creativity and solidarity could never be suppressed in the segregated and brutally marginalized communities. Hip-hop and graffiti are resistance. Clichés of inner-city struggle are vividly refuted in this book. The volume documents Morrison's recent exhibitions, one of which is dedicated to the younger generation: frame-braking images that interweave narrative forms of comics and pop art with illustration.
