(Please scroll down for English version) BERLIN 1945 - 2000 ALS FOTOFRAFISCHES MOTIV untersucht, wie deutsche ebenso wie internationale Fotografen und Fotografinnen Berlin zwischen der unmittelbaren Nachkriegszeit und dem Ende des 20. Jahrhunderts gesehen haben. Die Kunsthistorikerin und Kuratorin Candice M. Hamelin wählte dafür exemplarische Arbeiten von über zwanzig Fotografen und Fotografinnen aus. Der Ausstellungskatalog - der begleitend zu einer großen Ausstellung der Reinbeckhallen, Berlin erscheint - beginnt mit Schwarzweißaufnahmen des in Trümmern liegenden Berlins und endet mit Bildern städtebaulicher Projekte der Nachwendezeit, die häufig in Farbe und mit bis zu mehrere Jahre langen Belichtungszeiten aufgenommen wurden. Zwischen diesen beiden Abschnitten finden sich Aufnahmen, die den Genres der Street-, Architektur-, Porträt- sowie der subjektiven, konzeptuellen und experimentellen Fotografie angehören. Im Dialog miteinander veranschaulichen die Bilder dieses Buches und der Ausstellung die gewaltigen sozialen, politischen und kulturellen Veränderungen, die die Stadt durchgemacht hat, ebenso wie die vielfältigen fotografischen Praktiken und Tendenzen, die in Berlin im Verlauf von fünfundfünfzig Jahren entwickelt wurden.

BERLIN, 1945-2000: A PHOTOGRAPHIC SUBJECT explores how German and international photographers alike photographed Berlin between the immediate postwar years and the end of the twentieth century. Curator and art historian Candice M. Hamelin selected exemplary works by more than twenty photographers. The book, which is published to accompany a major exhibition at the Reinbeckhallen in Berlin-opens with black-and-white photographs of Berlin in ruins and concludes with images of Berlin's urban development projects after the fall of the Berlin Wall that are often in color and taken with exposure times of up to several years. Images that belong to the genres of street, subjective, architectural, conceptual, portrait, and experimental photography can be found between these two sections. In dialogue with each other, the images in BERLIN, 1945-2000: A PHOTOGRAPHIC SUBJECT underscore the immense social, cultural, and political changes the city underwent and, at the same time, the diverse photographic practices and tendencies that developed in Berlin over the course of fifty-five years.
