The landscape in the western part is dominated by the desert. But if you' re expecting monotonous sand deserts you' re wrong. Most parts of the country are dominated by rugged mountain ranges. The Al Hajar Mountains are in the northern part of the country. Jebel Shams is the highest peak with 2.998 meters above sea level. The Dhofar Mountains dominate the southern part of Oman. Jebal Samhan with 1.800 m is the highest peak in this area.Jakob Oberhauser knows all the great climbing destinations in Oman. Many of them are published for the first time in this book.
