Der österreichische Pavillon auf der 15. Gwangju-Biennale
Liesl Raff (geb. 1979 in Stuttgart, lebt und arbeitet in Wien) erforscht die Feinheiten und Grenzen physischer und sozialer Interaktionen durch experimentelle Verwendung verschiedener Materialien. In ihren Objekten und Installationen nutzt die Künstlerin Latex, um dessen anpassungsfähige und formverändernde Eigenschaften zu verdeutlichen. Sie arbeitet behutsam mit den Materialien, lernt von ihnen und schafft Räume für den Dialog, um die Distanz zwischen Kunstwerk und Betrachter*innen aufzulösen.
Für die 15. Gwangju-Biennale verwandelt Raff den österreichischen Pavillon im LEEKANGHA Art Museum nicht nur in eine immersive Installation, sondern auch in eine Bühne für Performance-Abende, ein Cabaret, einen Underground-Club. Raff bildet mit großformatigen, lila gefärbten und gegossenen Latexbahnen Korridore, die sich um ein Bühnenpodest anordnen. Club Liaison reflektiert das kollaborative und experimentelle Arbeiten und enthält Texte zu Raffs Werken von Marianne Dobner, den Kuratorinnen Fiona Liewehr und Carolina Nöbauer, ein introspektives Produktions- tagebuch von Cathrin Mayer sowie Beiträge der Performer*innen Luca Bonamore und Lau Lukkarila, Stina Force, Haepaary, Hyeji Nam, Danielle Pamp, Karolina Preuschl und Alex Franz Zehetbauer.
The Austrian Pavilion at the 15th Gwangju Biennale
Liesl Raff (b. Stuttgart, 1979; lives and works in Vienna) explores the subtleties and boundaries of physical and social interactions through the experimental use of various materials. In her objects and installations, the artist employs latex to highlight its adaptable and shape-shifting properties. Raff works gently with the materials, learns from them, and creates spaces for dialogue to bridge the gap between the artwork and the viewers.
For the 15th Gwangju Biennale, Raff transforms the Austrian Pavilion at the LEEKANGHA Art Museum into not only an immersive installation but also a stage for performance evenings, a cabaret, and an underground club. Raff creates corridors with large, purple-tinted, cast latex sheets that arrange around a stage platform. Club Liaison reflects the collaborative and experimental work and includes texts on Raff's works by Marianne Dobner, by the curators Fiona Liewehr and Carolina Nöbauer, an introspective production diary by Cathrin Mayer, as well as contributions from the performers Luca Bonamore and Lau Lukkarila, Stina Force, Haepaary, Hyeji Nam, Danielle Pamp, Karolina Preuschl, and Alex Franz Zehetbauer.
