Ulrike Seyboth (geb. 1970 in Schneeberg, lebt und arbeitet in Berlin und im Languedoc) untersucht das Malen als einen komplexen Zusammenhang, vom seismografischen, tagebuchartigen Skizzieren flüchtiger Momente auf Reisen über große Papiere und Collagen bis hin zu großformatigen Ölmalereien auf Leinwand. Ingo Fröhlich (geb. 1966, aufgewachsen auf Norderney, lebt und arbeitet in Berlin und im Languedoc) ist Bildhauer und Zeichner. Seine Arbeiten sind zeichnerische Analysen. Sie entstehen in gestischen und rhythmischen Prozessen, sie beschreiben Bewegung, Zeit und Zwischenraum. In ihrem Kooperationsprojekt ergründen die beiden Künstler das Spannungsverhältnis von Fülle und Leere auf Lein-wand, Papier und im Raum.

Oftmals sind es Studienaufenthalte und Reisen - das Atelier vagabond - die das Paar als Inspiration und Beweggrund für ein neues gemeinsames Projekt nutzt. So auch im Zusammenhang mit diesem Buch, das im Rahmen der Doppelausstellung in den Musées de Sens im französischen Burgund und der Guardini Galerie in Berlin entstanden ist. Es dokumentiert beide Ausstellungen. Mit Texten von Frizzi Krella und Robert Kudielka und einem Künstlergespräch.

Studies in Light, Color, Brushstroke, and Line

Ulrike Seyboth (b. Schneeberg, 1970; lives and works in Berlin and Languedoc) explores the making of paintings as a complex practice, from seismographic and diaristic sketches of ephemeral travel impressions to large works on paper, collages, and expansive oil paintings. Ingo Fröhlich (b. 1966, raised on Norderney; lives and works in Berlin and Languedoc) is a sculptor and draftsman. His work are graphic analyses. Originating in gestural and rhythmic processes, they render movement, time, and interspaces. In this collaborative project, the two artists probe the tensions between plenitude and vacancy on the canvas and paper and in three dimensions.

Research stays and travels-the Atelier vagabond-are a key source of inspiration for the two and provide the initial spark for their joint projects. That was true of this book, which was created in connection with a pair of shows at the Musées de Sens (Burgundy, France) and Guardini Galerie, Berlin. Documenting both exhibitions, it also contains essays by Frizzi Krella and Robert Kudielka and a conversation with the artists.
