Description
(Text)
Road traffic accidents and fatalities create an urgent need to extend the study of driver behavior and driving safety into real-life settings. Advanced driver assistance systems must be developed which will be both effective in helping drivers avoid accidents and will enjoy a high degree of purchase interest and acceptance during use. This book describes the development of a new system for studying real-life driving safety using dynamically triggered interviewing. During normal daily driving, potentially safety-critical events are identified in real-time and in-vehicle interviews are carried out from a dedicated call-center. The newly developed system was applied in an extensive study of real-life driving. The system allows unique insights into drivers' experience of safety-critical situations and provides valuable input for future development of advanced driver assistance systems, with the goal of continuing to improve driving safety.
