1925 legte Dmitri Schostakowitsch als Abschlussarbeit seines Studiums am Petersburger Konservatorium seine Sinfonie Nr. 1 in f-Moll op. 10 vor. Dem 18-jährigen Komponisten gelang damit nicht nur eine brillante Abschlussarbeit, sondern ein ausgereiftes Werk, das schon deutlich seine persönliche Tonsprache verrät. Namhafte Dirigenten wie Bruno Walter, Leopold Stokowski und Arturo Toscanini waren sofort von der kompositorischen Qualität begeistert und sorgten mit zahlreichen Aufführungen in Europa und in den USA dafür, dass diese Sinfonie schnell Eingang ins sinfonische Repertoire fand.Dieser Band ist Teil der überarbeiteten und korrigierten Neuausgabe aller 15 Sinfonien Dmitri Schostakowitschs aus dem Hause Boosey & Hawkes und Sikorski.
