Schon bei Da Vinci lesen wir, »ein Kunstwerk denken, ist eine göttliche Tat, dieses ausführen eine hündische«. Und die Moderne wird diese konzeptuelle Trennung von gedanklicher Leistung und ausführender Tätigkeit begierig aufgreifen, um ihre Kompensation des Verlusts der Aura des Werkes durch die Selbstinszenierung des Künstlers zu autorisieren. Für junge MalerInnen wie die 1977 geborene Meisterschülerin der Münchner Kunstakademie ist der Malakt eine bewusste Entscheidung gegen eine Kunstanschauung, die man als computergenerierten Ausdruck blinder Webgläubigkeit charakterisieren könnte. Simone Strasser will nochmals herausfinden, was die Malerei alles vermag, wenn sie sich auf ihre eigensten Mittel besinnt und sich ihrer mit gebotenem Ernst bedient. Darin liegt ein Widerstandspotenzial, welches den Blick nach draußen auf die sichtbare Welt richtet. So zeigen Strassers Bilder Innen- wie Außenräume oder auch Porträts, wobei es ihr nicht so sehr auf das Motiv, sei es abstrakter odersei es gegenständlicher Natur, ankommt, sondern vielmehr auf das Malen als solches.

Da Vinci once wrote, »to imagine a work of art is a divine act, to enact it a servile one.« Modernism eagerly takes up this conceptual separation of intellectual, creative achievement and its enactment in order to compensate for its loss of the aura surrounding the work, resulting from the artist s self-dramatisation. For young painters such as this master pupil from the Munich Academy, born in 1977, the act of painting is a conscious decision against a view of art that might be characterised as the computer-generated expression of blind faith in the Web. Simone Strasser wants to discover what painting is capable of when it is mindful of its most essential methods and uses them with the necessary seriousness. This is precisely where its potential for resistance resides, duly directing its glance towards the outside world. Thus, Strasser s paintings show interior as well as exterior spaces, or indeed portraits, whereby she is not so interested in the motif itself, be it abstract or figurative in nature, but rather in painting per se.
