DURCHREISE.Die 1963 in Berlin geborene Ute Hartwig-Schulz fand zum Ende ihres Studiums an der Hochschule für bildende Künste Dresden den Ort für ihren Lebenstraum: das kleine Dorf Prösitz, gelegen in der sächsischen Muldenlandschaft. Dort bildet seit mehr als einem Vierteljahrhundert ein alter Dreiseithof ihren Wohn- und Arbeitsmittelpunkt. Das Künstlergut, das als Künstlerhaus wirkt, genießt einen bemerkenswerten Ruf weit über die Grenzen Sachsens hinaus. Hier finden neben regionalen Kunst- und Kulturprojekten seit 25 Jahren jeden Sommer Symposien statt, zu denen sich Künstlerinnen aus ganz Europa bewerben. Ute Hartwig-Schulz schultert die Verantwortung. Sie ist weitsichtige Initiatorin, Managerin, viele Jahre auch Bauherrin und Mentorin für alle Aufgaben des "Künstlergutes Prösitz", welches sich in der Trägerschaft eines gemeinnützigen Vereins befindet. Die Bildhauerin ist das Herz der Unternehmung, niemals eitel, aber selbstbewusst und kämpferisch, knüpft nationale und internationale Beziehungen, um Chancen für ein Voran- und Weitergehen des Projektes zu ermöglichen. Ihr Wirken in dieser Aufgabe, Möglichkeitsräume für viele Kunst- und Denkprozesse unserer Gesellschaft zu schaffen, geht von dem Begriff einer sozialen Plastik aus, den einst Joseph Beuys entwickelte. Dessen Konzept schließt in den Kunstbegriff ausdrücklich jenes menschliche Handeln ein, welches auf eine Formung der gesellschaftlichen Verhältnisse ausgerichtet ist.

TRANSIT.Born in Berlin in 1963, Ute Hartwig-Schulz found the place for her lifelong dream at the end of her studies at the Dresden School of Fine Arts: the small village of Prösitz, located in the Saxon landscape along the river Mulde. For more than a quarter of a century, an old three-sided farm has been forming the center of her living and working. The Künstlergut, which acts as an artist's house, enjoys a remarkable reputation far beyond the borders of Saxony. Here, in addition to regional arts and cultural projects, symposia have been held every summer for 25 years, to which artists from all over Europe apply. Ute Hartwig-Schulz shoulders the responsibility. She is far-sighted initiator, manager, many years also home-builder and mentor for all tasks of the "artists' estate Prösitz", which is in the sponsorship of a non-profit association. The sculptor is the heart of the venture, never vain, but self-confident and combative, building national and international relationships to provide opportunities for moving forward and promoting the project. Her work in this task of creating spaces of possibilities for many processes in arts and thinking within our society is based on the concept of a social sculpture that Joseph Beuys developed once. He explicitly included into his conception of arts that human action which is oriented towards the formation of social relations.Ute Hartwig-Schulz creates sculptural and installative compositions that reveal the hidden forces of human existence and the ideal losses of our time.This illustrated book describes the career of the sculptor and the development of the artists' estate Prösitz. It is addressed to people who are interested in the fine arts, artists' biographies, problems of finding and executing artworks as well as philosophical topics.
