Description
The history of Heist is traced in this volume from its beginnings to the present day. Starting with its first documented mention in 1276, a team of five authors follows the development of the village through the Middle Ages, the early modern period, and modern times into the 21st century. Political, economic, and social changes are consistently examined in relation to broader developments in Schleswig-Holstein and the wider regional context. At the heart of the study, however, are the people of the village: their everyday lives, working conditions, forms of social interaction, and their responses to change. Whether as an agrarian community, through its integration into the Prussian state, during the upheavals of the World Wars, or in the processes of post-war modernization, Heist emerges as a vivid example of the transformation of rural areas between marshland and geest. The volume brings together contributions from five experts, based on a broad range of sources and developed in dialogue with current scholarship. Clearly written and rich in illustrative insights, the book -edited by the renowned regional historian Oliver Auge - is intended both for the residents of Heist and for all those interested in the history of Schleswig-Holstein. Oliver Auge (Prof. Dr.) ist Direktor der Abteilung für Regionalgeschichte mit dem Schwerpunkt zur Geschichte Schleswig-Holsteins in Mittelalter und Früher Neuzeit am Historischen Seminar der Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel.
