Consacrée à la publication d'études sur le théâtre de la Renaissance européenne - et d'abord anglaise - et sur la culture qui le nourrit, la collection "THETA" se veut lieu de rencontre et de débat, accueillant sans exclusive toutes les approches.
Les onze essais de ce troisième volume consacré à l'émotion au théâtre cherchent dans le texte dramatique et ses prolongements spectaculaires les sources et modalités de l'impact thymique que le critique est en droit de présumer chez le spectateur des pièces étudiées. Même lorsque demeure posé l'épineux problème des interactions entre texte dramatique et texte spectaculaire, ils proposent des lumières originales sur thèmes et éléments formels où s'enracinent les affects, dans des pièces qui vont du théâtre "médiéval" à celui des élisabéthains.
Dedicated to the study of the drama of the English - and European - Renaissance and the culture in which it is rooted, the "THETA" series aims to be a forum for exchange and debate.
In this third volume of the collection, eleven studies investigate ways of understanding how emotion works in the theatre. Even when not addressing the riddle of how the dramatic and the performance text achieve their joint impact, these readings shed original light on themes and formal elements that shape and convey the affects which these critics feel can be assumed in the spectator of plays ranging from the so-called medieval drama to that of the Elizabethan period.
