To allow for flexible instrumentation, all the voices are written in C and B flat. Additionally, the third voice is written in E flat and F. Johann Sebastian Bach war Organist in Arnstadt, Mühlhausen und Weimar, außerdem Kapellmeister am Hof in Köthen und ab 1723 Thomaskantor in Leipzig. Sein umfangreiches Schaffen umfaßt Kirchenmusik, konzertante Orchestermusik, Kammermusik, Orgel- und Klaviermusik und weltliche Kantaten. Johann Sebastian Bach stammte aus einer großen Musikerfamilie und war der bedeutendste Komponist des Barock.
