München zur Jahrhundertwende: Das Who-is-who des deutschen Expressionismus versammelt sich in der Kunstmetropole der Stunde, unter ihnen der junge Alexej von Jawlensky (1864-1941). Zwei Jahrzehnte verbringt er in der Isaarstadt, hier reift er zu einem Künstler von Weltrang, dessen Landschaften, Stillleben und Bildnisse heute zu den Hauptwerken der Klassischen Moderne zählen. In Tschork im Gouvernement Twer geboren, siedelt er 1896 gemeinsam mit der Malerin Marianne von Werefkin, die ihn unentwegt fördert und unterstützt, nach München über und lernt unter anderem die Avantgardekünstler Wassily Kandinsky, Franz Marc und Gabriele Münter kennen. During exchanges with the others Jawlensky finds himself and his still uniquely colourful and powerful paintings.
