This interdisciplinary collection of essays deals with the interface between gender and nation in the Americas and the ways in which the discourse of gender and the discourse of nation have been entangled from the rise of nationalism in the 18th and early 19th century to the present. Twenty-one contributions address the intersection of gender and nation discourses in five sections including foundational narrations of nation, gender-based violence as a constitutive factor of nation building and the experiences of women in war, the representation of women in national literary canons and their struggles for inclusion therein, gendered configurations of space, and gender and transnationalism in film. The collection takes as a regional focus the American hemisphere and forms part of the emergent field of inter-American studies. It presents the outcome of a long lasting dialogue between scholars from Mexico, the United States, the Netherlands, and Germany. Este tomo reúne una colecciónde ensayos provenientes de varias disciplinas que tematizan los discursos de género y nación en las Américas. Las genealogías de estos dos discursos se han vinculado estrechamente desde el período fundacional de las naciones americanas en los siglos XVIII y XIX. Los veintiún ensayos se organizan en cinco secciones y enfocan las narraciones fundacionales del siglo XIX, las políticas de género en tiempos de guerra y violencia, las rupturas en el canon, las configuraciones del espacio y los aspectos de género en el cine (trans)nacional. El tomo contiene una gran variedad de ejemplos y estudios y es el resultado de un diálogo sostenido entre especialistas de México, los EE.UU., los Países Bajos y Alemania en el marco de estudios regionales interamericanos.
