Based on scientific literature, careful research and own observations, Michael Daxner gives in his new book Afghanistan Endgame - No Lessons Learned? an insight into problems that have occurred with Western engagement in Afghan affairs.In his work Daxner takes a closer look at the various dimensions of political, moral and cultural problems that are overlaid with security and anti-terror(ist) connotations. Questions addressed are what has happened and changed in this society of intervention during the last decade and what will the withdrawal of the international troops mean for Afghanistan's future as well as political ethics of our time? This working paper is dedicated to scientists and an interested public whose common interest is to not let Afghanistan fall back into oblivion.Basierend auf wissenschaftlicher Literatur, eingehender Recherche und eigenen Beobachtungen gibt Michael Daxner in seinem neuen Buch Afghanistan Endgame - No Lessons Learned? einen tiefen Einblick in Probleme, die durch die Einmischung westlicher Truppen in Afghanistan entstanden.In seiner Arbeit erforscht Daxner diverse Dimensionen von politischen, moralischen und kulturellen Problematiken, die unter dem Deckmantel von Sicherheit und Anti-Terror behandelt werden. Er untersucht, welche Veränderungen in Afghanistan stattgefunden haben und welche Auswirkung der Truppenabzug bis Ende 2014 auf das Land und auf die Bedeutung von politischer Ethik haben wird. Diese Arbeit richtet sich an Wissenschaftler und ein interessiertes Publikum, deren gemeinsames Interesse darin besteht, Afghanistan nicht wieder in Vergessenheit geraten zu lassen.

Michael Daxner undertook his studies at the Universities of Vienna and Freiburg, where he was enrolled in pedagogy, philosophy, as well as humanities and social sciences. His research interests focus on cultures of intervention and cultural policies; civil/military interaction and governance in Afghanistan; and higher education policy.Michael Daxner has held prominent posts as a political and academic consultant, for example for the UNMIK in Kosovo and on behalf of the German Federal Foreign Office in Afghanistan. He was president of the University of Oldenburg from 1986 to 1998. Michael Daxner has taught and conducted research at universities in Oldenburg, Osnabrück and at Freie Universität Berlin. Since 2009, he has been a senior fellow at the Berghof Foundation.
