Henning Strassburger, der von 2006 bis 2009 an der Kunstakademie Düsseldorf studierte, erkundet im Zeitalter von Social Media neue Sichtweisen, neue Fragestellungen bezüglich des Habitus und neue formale Sprachregelungen. Neben der starken Ausstrahlung, welche ganz offensichtlich die Popkultur auf sein Werk ausübt, kommt einem, damit korrespondierend, auch sofort das Diktum von Jasper Johns (1965) in den Sinn, illusionistische Malerei bedürfe heute keines bildlichen Illusionismus mehr, da sie nunmehr selbst Objekt geworden sei; war doch die illusionäre Darstellung eines Objekts, eines realen Bildgegenstandes, mit der Pop Art obsolet geworden. Das zählt unter veränderten Rahmenbedingungen auch heute noch, weshalb der Ausstellungsmacher Max Dax in der Hamburger Ausstellung HYPER und ihrer jüngsten Variante unter dem Titel BLACK ALBUM WHITE CUBE, die ab 20. Juni in der Kunsthalle Rotterdam zu sehen ist, die Arbeiten von Henning Strassburger auch unter dem Aspekt präsentiert, dass die Realismus vorgaukelnde Bilderflut des WWW einen unerschöpflichen Fundus objekthafter Werke im Sinne Johns' abgibt. Entsprechend nutzt Henning Strassburger die von Netzidolen verkörperten Teenagephantasien als Projektionsflächen für abstrakte Bildmotive: den Kuss zweier weiblicher Popstars auf der großen Bühne ebenso wie die Selbsterfindung eines Teenstars als harter Macho-Rapper.

In the age of social media, Henning Strassburger, who studied at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 2006 to 2009, explores new perspectives, new approaches regarding habitus and new formal language rules. In addition to the strong charisma that pop culture quite obviously exudes on his work, one is immediately reminded of the dictum of Jasper Johns (1965) in that illusionist painting no longer needs any pictorial illusionism because it has now become an object itself; after all, the illusionary representation of an object, an actual object, had become obsolete with Pop Art. This is still valid today, albeit under different circumstances, which is why the exhibition organizer Max Dax is presenting the works of Henning Strassburger in the Hamburg exhibition HYPER - and its most recent version under the title BLACK ALBUM WHITE CUBE, which can be seen in the Kunsthal Rotterdam starting from 20. June 2020 - also under the aspect that the flood of images on the Internet simulating realism provides an inexhaustible fund of object-like works in the sense of Johns. Accordingly, Henning Strassburger uses the teenage fantasies embodied by net idols as projection surfaces for abstract image motifs: the kiss of two female pop stars on the big stage just as much as the self-invention of a teen star as a tough macho-rapper.
