Images of terror have a huge long-term impact that we can hardly escape. Theyingrain themselves deep in our collective memory. Images of terror are not onlyreproductions that document an incident. They are more than pure media, transportinginterpretations through the utilization of their aesthetic potential. In our modern mediaorientedsociety, photography is just as much a weapon as it is a goal. Thus there is athin line between the reproduction of an action in an image and the image as an actionitself. The media truth does not always correspond to reality. In fact, images evenhave the ability to create reality. The book explores the processing of photographs bythe media and their subsequent significance for our daily image culture as well as thedecisive role played by the mass media.
