Der Bericht eines namentlich nicht bekannten, rheinischen Autors führt hinein in die orientalische Welt des mittleren 14. Jahrhunderts. Er zeigt die Vielfalt der Glaubensverhältnisse im Orient und ist an Sitten, Gebräuchen und Lebensformen interessiert. Er hat ein gewisses Gespür für politische Schachzüge und Machtkonstellationen in fremden Gesellschaften und legt für die historischen Verhältnisse eine ausgeprägte religiöse Duldsamkeit an den Tag. Der bislang noch nicht hinreichend erschlossene Text wird auf der Grundlage der handschriftlichen Überlieferung ediert, übersetzt und kommentiert.
The Lower Rhine Orient report leads us straight into the Oriental world as it was researched by an observer from the Rhine area in the middle of the 14th century. The author, who is not known by name, presents the variety of religions in the Orient and he is above all interested in customs, habits and different ways of living. He has a certain sense for political moves andconstellations of power in foreign societies and shows an expressive, religious forbearance for the historic conditions. The up to now not efficiently deciphered text will be edited, translated and commented on the basis of the handwritten records.
