Zeitungen eignen sich als Quellenmaterial für den Geschichtsunterricht vor allem, weil in ihnen eine breite Vielfalt an Themenaspekten verhandelt wird: Neben der klassischen politikgeschichtlichen Perspektive ermöglichen sie eine vertiefte Bearbeitung von wirtschafts-, sozial-, alltags-, kultur- oder auch mentalitätsgeschichtlichen Fragestellungen. Neben Fragen nach Materialauswahl und thematischen Schwerpunkten problematisieren die Autoren domänenspezifische Kompetenzen, die durch den Einsatz von Zeitungen im Geschichtsunterricht gefördert werden können. Based on the notions of a cultural history-orientated media history, the essays in this volume show various perspectives of how historical learning can succeed with the aid of historical newspapers. These are especially suitable for use as source material for history classes because they address a wide variety of aspects of the topics covered: In addition to the classic political-historical perspective, they allow in-depth processing of historical issues dealing with the economy, society, everyday life, culture, and history of mentalities. Alongside questions concerning the selection of materials and areas of thematic focus, the authors elucidate the problems associated with the domain-specific competences that can be promoted by using newspapers in history lessons.

Frank Bösch ist Direktor des Zentrums für Zeithistorische Forschung (ZZF) und Professor für deutsche und europäische Geschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts an der Universität Potsdam.
Dr. Astrid Schwabe ist Juniorprofessorin für Public History sowie historisches Lernen im Sachunterricht an der Europa-Universität Flensburg.Prof. Dr. Peter Geiss lehrt Didaktik der Geschichte am Institut für Geschichtswissenschaft der Universität Bonn.
