Description
(Text)
The notebook of Johann Andreas Stein contains a partial record, both of his experiences as a journeyman organ maker and of his gradual metamorphosis into one of the most famous piano makers of all time. The notebook starts on Thursday the 1st of August 1748 when Stein left his home town of Heidelsheim and covers his time on the road, his participation at the workshops of his tow masters, Johann Andreas Silbermann in Strasbourg and Frantz Jacob Spath in Regensburg, and about the first 25 years Stein spent in Augsburg, initially as an organ builder but soon as an ispiered maker of stringed keyboard instruments.
