Die Kindheit in seinem jüdischen Elternhaus war überschattet von Ausgrenzung und Antisemitismus. 1938 emigrierte er mit seinen Eltern in die USA, wo er in die Army eingezogen wurde. 1955 kehrte Georg Kreisler nach Europa zurück. 2004 erhielt er den Richard-Schönfeld-Preis für literarische Satire. Neben über 500 Liedern schrieb er Romane, Essays, Kurzgeschichten, Theaterstücke und Opern. 2010 wurde ihm der Friedrich Hölderlin-Preis der Stadt Bad Homburg für sein Lebenswerk verliehen. Georg Kreisler verstarb 2011.
