During his visit on 1 June 1980, St. John Paul II recalled the twofold witness borne by this church: the contemplative life of the Carmelites - embodied in the timeless message of Lawrence of the Resurrection, who lived here, of a life spent in the constant presence of the Lord - and the faithfulness of the martyrs of 1792. Today, St. Joseph of the Carmelites remains the spiritual heart of the Catholic Institute of Paris. Since its founding in 1875, the institute has sought to unite faith, intellect, and service to the world, engaging in constant dialogue with the questions of every era. Students, teachers, and researchers are thus invited to make their work a place for seeking truth and proclaiming the Kingdom.
