Richard Prince: Collected Writings versammelt erstmals eine Auswahl an Texten des amerikanischen Künstlers. Richard Prince ( 1949) wurde vor allem mit seiner Appropriation Art berühmt, also das Abfotografieren ikonischer Vorlagen aus Werbung und Populärkultur - wie die erotischen Nurses-Gemälde, die Marlboro-Cowboys oder seine Jokes, Textbilder chauvinistischer Witze, mit denen er dem Betrachter den Spiegel vorhält. Die 35 hier vorgestellten Essays und Texte des Künstlers entstanden in den Jahren 1974 bis 2009 und beschäftigen sich mit einer großen Bandbreite von Themen, von Franz Kline bis Woodstock, darunter auch grundsätzliche Überlegungen zu der neue Wege eröffnenden fotografischen Technik von Prince. Ein neuer literarischer Text von Jonathan Lethem, Autor des viel diskutierten Romans Chronic City, rundet den von Kristine McKenna herausgegebenen Band ab.

Richard Prince: Collected Writings is the first collection of selected short works by American artist Richard Prince (born 1949), who is mainly known for his photographs of iconic pictures from advertising and pop culture, such as the erotic Nurses paintings, the Marlboro cowboys, or his Jokes, textual visuals of chauvinist jokes, through which he holds a mirror up to the viewer.
Written between 1974 and 2009, these thirty-five prose pieces explore everything from Franz Kline to Woodstock, and include revealing musings on the revolutionary approach to photography central to Prince's art-making practice.
Richard Prince: Collected Writings includes a new work of short fiction, written especially for this handsomely illustrated volume, by award winning author Jonathan Lethem (Motherless Brooklyn, Fortress of Solitude, Chronic City); edited by Kristine McKenna.

Jonathan Lethem, geb. 1964, lebt in Brooklyn, New York. Für "Motherless Brooklyn" hat er den National Book Critics Circle Award 2000 und den Gold Dagger-Literaturpreis 2000 erhalten, außerdem wurde es von der American Library Association zum besten Buch des Jahres gewählt.
