Sie stehen still, gedankenverloren, ins Nichts blickend, ins Gespräch mit dem Nachbarn vertieft oder mit dem Handy am Ohr: Die Passanten, die Florian Böhm ( 1969) auf den Straßen Manhattans fotografiert, sind alle in einer kleinen Zeitschleife gefangen und warten auf grünes Licht. Ob New Yorker aller Gesellschaftsschichten und Ethnien oder Touristen aus aller Welt, die rote Ampel macht sie zunächst einmal alle gleich. Und doch verraten Kleidung, Accessoires und Haltung erstaunlich viel über die Abgebildeten. Man glaubt zu wissen, wie sie sind und leben. Die meisten merken nicht, dass sie fotografiert werden und geben sich daher völlig unverstellt, nur wenige nehmen Blickkontakt mit dem Kameraauge auf, selten lächelt jemand, zumeist Kinder. Florian Böhm lebt selbst seit Jahren in New York und hat bereits in dem Fotoprojekt End Commercial (zusammen mit Wolfgang Scheppe und Luca Pizzaroni) einen untrüglichen Blick für die Details urbanen Lebens bewiesen, die Geschichten erzählen. German artist Florian Böhm (born 1969) photographs passers by on the streets of Manhattan,catching them in slow motion as they wait for walk: motionless, lost in thought,or deep in conversation, staring at nothing or sidetracked with a cell phoneheld to their ear. Böhm's conceptual series of portraits relies primarily on chance. The selection of people, the spontaneous groupings, and the moment in which the photograph is taken is not controlled by a premeditated staging, but rather orchestrated by the rhythm of traffic regulations. Whether New Yorkers from all walks of society or tourists from around the world, the traffic lighttreats them all the same. And yet clothing, facial expressions, and posture reveal an astonishing wealth of information about each individual. Böhm lives in New York, and in his project End Commercial, he has already demonstrated his infallible eye for the narrative details of urban life.

Florian Böhm, geboren 1969, lebt und arbeitet in München und New York. Ausstellungen seiner Werke fanden in verschiedenen internationalen Institutionen statt, darunter KunstWerke Institute for Contemporary Art (Berlin), Storefront for Art and Architecture (New York), Haus der Kunst (München), Fondazione Adriano Olivetti (Rome) und die Fondation Cartier pour l'Art Contemporain (Paris). Er ist Mitbegründer des Projekts EndCommercial®/ Reading the City, einer urbanistischen Studie.
