Während der Jahre des Ersten Weltkrieges widmete sich Steiner intensiv der Verteidigung seiner anthroposophischen Geisteswissenschaft gegen zeitgenössische Kritiker. Die drei Schriften des vorliegenden Bandes, 'Vom Menschenrätsel' (1916), 'Von Seelenrätseln' (1917) und 'Goethes Geistesart' (1918), sind Ausdruck dieser Bemühungen. Indem sie besonderen Wert darauf legen, die Anthroposophie methodisch klarer zu fassen und deren Forschungsansatz gegenüber den Methoden der traditionellen Geistes- und Naturwissenschaften abzugrenzen, wird in ihnen die Nähe dieses Wissensparadigmas zu bestimmten Fragestellungen im gegenwärtigen Methodendiskurs besonders deutlich. Überdies findet sich in dem Text von 1917 die erste schriftliche Formulierung der für die Anthroposophie zentralen Dreigliederung des menschlichen Organismus.During the years of WW I, Steiner devoted himself intensively to defending his anthroposophical framework against contemporary critics. Consequently, relations between this scientific paradigm and certain contemporary debates about research methodology are particularly visible in them. Furthermore, the text of 1917 contains the first written formulation of the idea of a threefold structure of the human organism, which is central to anthroposophy.
