The Kid from Venezuela wurde 1990 von Aldo Abreu in Auftrag gegeben. Es ist ein 12taktiger Blues, der auf dem jamaikanischen Volkslied Matilda ("Matilda nimmt mein Geld und läuft nach Venezuela") entnommenen Motiv beruht. Das Stück ist ganz im modernen Jazzstil geschrieben; es ist keinerlei Versuch unternommen worden, diesen mit irgendeiner anderen Richtung zu vermischen oder zu verwässern. ´Die Jazzsoli sind sowohl für die Blockflöte als auch für das Klavier ausgeschrieben. Nach dem Klaviersolo wechseln einander Blockflöte und Klavier, der Tradition folgend, mit 4taktigen Phrasen ab. Dieser Abschnitt enthält zahlreiche Telemann-Zitate für die Blockflöte und ein Bach-Zitat für das Klavier.Schwierigkeitsgrad: 1-2

The Kid from Venezuela was commissioned in 1990 by Aldo Abreu. lt is a 12 bar blues based on a motive from the Jamaican folk song Matilda (Matilda she take me money and run Venezuela). The idiom is purely modern jazz: there is no attempt to fuse it with anything else or water it down. However, the jazz solos for both the recorder and piano are written out. After the piano solo, the recorder and piano trade 4 bar phrases as is the tradition.
