Description
(Text)
"Transfer in English Studies" is a collection of papers given at the 2011 annual conference of the Austrian Association of University Teachers of English (AAUTE) held in Salzburg. Whilst reflecting a selection of projects and research activities currently going on in Austria s English Departments, this volume touches upon some of present-day culture s most daunting issues: cross-cultural encounters through processes of adaptation, translation, transformation and interpretation; the tightrope walk between mediation and misunderstanding in literary, cultural and medial exchange; ambivalent, often contradictory, constructions of the past through historiography and literature; interart and transnational approaches to literature; shifts in canon-and corpus-formation bearing on learners capacity to confront change; mobility and cross-cultural communication; subversions of social hierarchies, power relations, individual and collective identities; transfer phenomena between different linguistic systems as well as theoretical and methodological transfer in linguistics.
Bringing together case studies from literature, dance, music, media, theatre and translation studies as well as linguistics and didactics, this collection of papers draws the reader s attention both to interdisciplinary transfers within English Studies as well as to languages, cultures, arts and media in traffic.
