This study provides a real insight in to the working lives of nurses in China. It provides a contemporary explanation of why nurses leave nursing practice and enlightens and deepens our understanding of issues faced by those entering and leaving practice. Whilst the study was conducted in China, there are lessons to be learnt about nursing workforce internationally. The use of grounded theory generates a powerful theoretical model to explain why nurses leave nursing practice. Given the global nursing workforce issues, this represents a key piece of work for both nurse scholars and nurse managers. - Dr. Sheila Rodgers, Head of Nursing, University of Edinburgh
