In the 21st century, concern for the environment tops the agenda. The environment is made up of both biotic and abiotic components which plays significant role in sustaining the health and well-being of human beings on the earth surface. However, the environment is continuously threatened by the activities of human beings, through continuous urbanization and the need to meet ever-increasing demands of urban populace. This is despite the role of planning in controlling and regulating the impact of urban and related activities through the use of development plan. This book therefore, tries to establish the link between planning and the environment. It also indicates the need for continuous integration of environmental components into urban and regional planning for the purpose of sustainability.
