Denim wear is often perceived as an adaptable and versatile product and has become an ever-growing staple item, especially amongst urban population. Its potential global application induces manufacturers to find ways of enhancing its aesthetic and functional qualities, to effectively broaden its appeal, usability and durability. Having been introduced to the consumer market recently, durable water repellent (DWR) STORM DENIM is one such innovative product with functional benefits such as water and stain repellence. However, the environmental impact generated during the manufacturing and utilisation stages of this garment have not been comprehensively deliberated and remains fragmented. This research investigated the significant factors that affect the overall performance of STORM DENIM garments and related product development. It established a conceptual framework that defined an optimum set of parameters for the manufacturing and utilisation of the product. The research emphasised that application of the developed framework would enable the reduction of negative environmental impact whilst fulfilling consumer needs, through enhanced environmentally friendly and ethical means.
