Full Description
Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS) aim to provide students with comparable instructional advantages to that of a human tutor by responding to individual needs and providing immediate feedback. This book provides the implementation and some testing of such an ITS for chemical formulae, especially redox reactions. It comprises a background module with the rules of deriving equations, a student module identifying errors or misconceptions, an interface, and a feedback module where structurally analogous examples are selected.
Contents
Introduction.- Basic Concepts and Current Research on ITS.- How to Identify Misconceptions in the Feedback Module of an ITS.- Providing Feedback withWorked-Out Analogical Examples.- "Chemieleon" - A Prototypical ITS to Teach Chemical Equations.- Realisation and Evaluation.- Conclusion.
