This volume constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 5th Multi-disciplinary International Workshop On Artificial Intelligence, MIWAI 2011, held in Hyderabad, India, in December 2011. The 38 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 71 submissions.
