Pakistan's economy has undergone a substantial diversification over the years yet the agricultural sector is still the most important and largest sector of the economy with present contribution to GDP about 23.3% and it accounts for 42.1% of the total engaged labour force. Cotton is an important cash crop for Pakistan known as "white gold". Thrips has attained a status of a regular cotton pest in Punjab, Pakistan. Thrips attack results in the reduction of 1.5 to 4.99% in seed cotton yield. They puncture the plant cells with their rasping-sucking mouth parts and take out cell sap. Jahanzeb Bukhari and Mirza Abdul Qayyum completed their M.Phil in Agri. Entomology in 2010 from University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan. Jahanzeb Bukhari is recently working as Territory Manager in Ali Akbar Group, Pakistan while Mirza Abdul Qayyum is a PhD scholar and Research Associate in UAF, Pakistan.
