Description

The role of software engineering has rapidly
increased during the last few years because systems
based on software and, with them, software itself
has become more and more complex. Within this book,
we are going to consider this and try to find the
best possible technique in software engineering for
designing and developing a C++ state machine
framework optimised for telecommunication protocol
software applications. We will go through the design
and implementation phase of a software project based
on an existing requirements document. A
classification of frameworks is given in the book,
which enables readers to better work with the
term "framework". Furthermore, all design decisions
are intensively evaluated and documented which will
help the reader when he has to solve similar
problems. Additionally, a solid base for further
research is provided. Algorithms and concepts that
were developed within this book are described in
detail, whereas the primary focus is on a finding a
C++ implementation that satisfies the requirements
for such a software framework. This book is based on
a research project at Siemens Networks GmbH. Dietmar Michael Sauer, Dipl.-Inf.: Dietmar Sauer studied
computer science at the University of Ulm, Germany, specializing
in software engineering and distributed systems. He is currently
working in the area of Research and Breakthrough Innovation at
SAP.
