The war on terrorism in Afghanistan draws worldpolicy leaders into questioning the avenue of futurecollaboration. Two actors play a key role both inrebuilding the war- and terror-torn country andrestructuring the global conning bridge. The UnitedStates pursue to maintain its «single, shiningprinciple: the cause of freedom,» (U.S. PresidentGeorge H. W. Bush) which frames the idea ofdemocracy, and to expand this tradition as a path tosecurity. Germany, the global leader in economicexports, pursues to revive Afghan roots and to expandits global influence on the political stage, in theUN Security Council. Disagreeing with the Americanway of fighting against terror, Germany is maturingto a conscious, self-sovereign nation. The authorshows how consistent and inconsistent German and U.S.policies are. He reveals how Germany's stunning, pastcommitments in Afganistan have been repeated, andwhat lessons have not been learned. An Afghanistanpolicy is to be the key to Central Asia.
