The author outlines the connection between the development of the Canadian national identity and Robertson Davies, an important author of the 20 th century. Looking at his essays, plays and novels, Sabine Jackson tries to demonstrate Canada's development from a colony to an autonomous country and its effects on the Canadian consciousness.

The Author: Sabine Jackson was born in Kitzingen (Germany) in 1976. She studied English and French at the University of Würzburg and obtained a Ph.D. in 2005. From 1999 to 2000 she attended the University of British Columbia, Canada. She taught language courses on college level in the US and currently teaches English and cultural studies at various educational institutions in Germany.
