Growing evidence suggests that T helper 1 (TH1) cells are involved in the pathogenesis of at least some autoimmune diseases wheras TH2 may act as regulatory cells to inhibit them. This book outlines therapeutic approaches based on the regulation of the TH1/TH2 balance. Basic clinical aspects of this mode of immunointervention are reviewed by Th1/Th2 regulation in autoimmunity, but similar approaches are applicable to immunointervention in infectious diseases, allergy, transplantation and cancer.
