This text is a review of the use of whole body hyperthermia to enhance the antineoplastic activity of ionizing irradiation, chemotherapy and immunotherapy. The contents include a detailed summary and analysis of fundamental principles as well as laboratory and clinical experience. The biophysics and methodologies for inducing systemic hyperthermia are also fully described. Non-oncological uses of whole body hyperthermia, as well as data for better understanding the physiological responses to fever, are discussed.
