This is a guide to various academic institutions in the People's Republic of China. The entries are grouped under 5 headings - research and design institutes (2,400 addresses), universities and colleges (590), societies and associations (411), public and special libraries (129) and museums (81). Each unit's full name and address (with Chinese translation) and further contact information is given. Additional information for most entries includes founding dates, officers, staff/teachers and students/members, divisions and branches, departments and faculties, aims and activities, achievements, facilities and holdings, histories, and other useful data. Three indices help to retrieve data concerning organizations in a particular province (municipality or autonomous region), to pinpoint organizations active in a particular field and to find by Chinese phonetics (pinyin).
