The 5th supplementary series of this 4th edition "Beilstein" handbook covers the organic compounds reported in the primary literature from 1960 to 1980. Volumes 20 to 22 cover heterocyclic compounds which contain a nitrogen atom as the only ring-heteroatom. Volume 22, which is divided into several subvolumes, deals with nitrogen heterocycles bearing a large variety of functional groups. Subvolume 22/7 covers oxo-carboxylic acids and all the hydroxy-oxo-carboxylic acids, sulfinic acids and sulfonic acids of this ring-class. The ring nitrogen atom and the functional groups may be coupled with inorganic compounds or any organic compound described in volumes 1-22 of this series.
