Mali and Burkina Faso cover a considerable part of West Africa and include three major African vegetation zones: the Saharan, Sahelian and Soudanian region.The new Flora covers the entire diversity of ferns, fern allies and flowering plants of both countries, altogether 2631 species (2115 species in Burkina Faso, 1952 in Mali, 1453 of them in both countries).For each species, a brief description of morphology, information on ecology and a distribution map are are presented, accompanied by line drawings of important characteristics of each species and color photographs for over 760 species.Further included are identification keys to families, genera and species, an index of vernacular (common) names as well as an introductory section on vegetation and human impact on the vegetation of Burkina Faso and Mali.
Le Mali et le Burkina Faso couvrent une partie considérable de l'Afrique de l'Ouest et comprennent trois grandes zones de végétation africaine: les régions saharienne, sahélienne et soudanienne. La flore énumère toute la diversité des fougères, des alliés des fougères et des plantes à fleurs des deux pays, soit un total 2631 espèces (2115 au Burkina Faso, 1 952 au Mali, dont 1 453 partagées). Pour chaque espèce, les auteurs proposent une brève description de la morphologie, de l'écologie, une carte de répartition et un dessin au trait illustrant les caractères importants pour l'identification, le tout accompagné de plus de 760 photographies en couleur. L'ouvrage comprend également des clés d'identification des familles, des genres et des espèces, ainsi qu'une partie introductive sur la végétation et l'impact de l'homme.
