This book sheds new light on the place of the individual in the Orthodox tradition and theology, its relationship to the community, the communal understanding of the church and the theology of personhood. Furthermore, it discusses issuesrelated to this problématique, such as the weak position of civil society in predominantly Orthodox countries or the question of pluralism and human rights. All contributions of Orthodox theologians and experts on Orthodox Christianity reflect the diverse conceptions of the individual and the community within recent Orthodox theology and churches, and contribute to a modern understanding of Orthodox Christianity. Hans-Peter Grosshans, Prof. Dr., is Professor for Systematic Theology and Director of the Institute for Ecumenical Theology at the Faculty of Protestant Theology of the University Münster (Germany). Pantelis Kalaitzidis, Dr., is Director of the Volos Academy for Theological Studies in Volos (Greece), and Visiting Professor or Visiting Scholar at several American and European Universities.
