Alexander von Humboldt gehört um 1810 zu den bekanntesten Wissenschaftlern der Welt. Sein Ruhm beruht in hohem Maß auf seiner Amerikanischen Reise (1799-1804).Seit dem Ankauf der Amerikanischen Reisetagebücher durch die Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz im Jahr 2013 hat die Humboldt-Forschung auf verschiedenen Ebenen neue Impulse erhalten. Inhaltlich bieten die Tagebücher reiches Material u. a. für die Wissenschaftsgeschichte, für die Literaturwissenschaft sowie für Kunst- und Kulturwissenschaften. Die Arbeit mit Manuskripten wirft gleichzeitig Fragen der Erfassung, der Materialität und der Edition auf. Schließlich wird durch die jüngst begonnenen Forschungs-, Sicherungs- und Editionsprojekte die Beschäftigung mit Humboldt auch institutionell intensiviert. Die Beiträge des vorliegenden Bandes spiegeln den engen Zusammenhang all dieser Perspektiven wider und nähern sich Humboldt in seinem Schreiben zwischen Natur- und Kulturwissenschaft als einem hochaktuellen Denker.In 1810 Alexander von Humboldt is among the best known scientists in the word.
