Jahrhundertelang waren Umfang und Auserlesenheit einer Sammlung das Kriterium für den Rang einer Bibliothek. Der Bestandsaufbau galt als vornehmste Aufgabe des wissenschaftlichen Bibliothekars. Heute, da digitale Kopien von Publikationen ubiquitär verfügbar sind, muss der Sammelauftrag der Bibliotheken neu bestimmt werden. Hat das bibliothekarische Konzept des Sammelns im digitalen Zeitalter überhaupt noch seinen Sinn? Gehört das vorsorgende Sammeln noch zu den Aufgaben von Bibliotheken, und wenn ja, wie sieht dies dann aus? Wie verändert sich die Aufgabenstellung der Bibliotheken?
Die Beiträge dieses Sammelbandes gehen zurück auf eine 2016 veranstaltete Tagung an der Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek in Weimar.
For centuries, having a comprehensive and select collection were the criteria for the rank of a library. Expanding the collection was the most important task of the academic librarian. Today, since digital copies of publications are ubiquitously available, the collecting task of libraries has to be redefined. Does the librarian's concept of collecting in the digital age have any meaning at all? Is provident collecting still one of the tasks of libraries, and if so, what does it look like? How does the libraries' scope of work change in general? The contributions to this volume go back to a conference at the Herzogin Anna Amalia Library, Weimar, in 2016.
