Der Band thematisiert die Prozesse der drastisch nachlassenden Reproduktionskraft der evangelischen Kirche in Deutschland. Sie wird nicht nur kleiner, sondern unbedeutender. Das beeinträchtigt ihre Finanzierung, ihre Ausstrahlung, die »Spannkraft« ihrer Aktivitäten, die Motivation der Mitarbeitenden - insgesamt ihre Plausibilität in der Gesellschaft. Der Blick richtet sich auf Gottesdienste, Musik, Religions- und Konfirmandenunterricht, familiale Sozialisation, Jugendarbeit, Diakonie, Pfarrpersonen und Ehrenamtliche sowie sonstige Gelegenheiten und entwickelt auf empirischer Grundlage theoretische Perspektiven zum Zusammenspiel von Glaube und Kirche. Deutlich werden einerseits ein Verlust an Vitalität insgesamt - aber auch Chancen im Konkreten.

[Church Crisis as Faith Crisis?]
This book addresses the processes of the drastically diminishing reproductive power of the Protestant Church in Germany. It is not only becoming smaller, but also more insignificant. This affects its financing, its charisma, the »resilience« of its activities, the motivation of its staff - all in all its plausibility in society. This study focuses on church services, music, religious education and confirmation classes, family socialisation, youth work, diaconia, pastors and volunteers as well as other issues and develops theoretical perspectives on the interplay between faith and church on an empirical basis. On the one hand, a loss of vitality overall becomes clear, but so do opportunities in concrete terms.
